Caring homes are needed for six standardbred horses out of a total 32 recently removed by the SPCA from an alleged offender. Ideally forster homes would need to be located near to Christhchurch.

The SPCA is in urgent need of people who are prepared to care for one or more of these horses. The period of fostering required is unknown at this time. The fosterer would be first in line to hold onto any horses forfeited to the SPCA and is subject to a successful prosecution.

Alternatively the SPCA is seeking assistance sourcing feed to alleviate the pressure on those who are currently providing fostering care.

These horses were among 38 horses kept near Christchurch, which fell into such poor condition over a period of some nine months, that six had to be euthanased.

The SPCA did not view the option of leaving any of the horses with the alleged offenders as viable.

It is alleged that the offenders had previously failed to comply with instructions to prevent suffering of these horses.

The SPCA signs an agreement with all potential fosterers prior to passing horses to potential foster homes.

Any person who may be able to assist is asked to contact Sandra Shearer direct on 0724 751 362
